What Is It With Mainstream Male Musicians and Nail Polish Lines?

Tyler, the Creator is one of the latest male-identfying musicians to release nail polish. His beauty brand, GOLF le FLEUR* has come out with three colours: ‘Geneva Blue’, ‘Georgia Peach’, and the simply-named ‘Glitter’. Priced at $20 each, his nail polishes are all toxic and cruelty free, and come with the iconic FLEUR* cap. 

Men sporting nail polish has always been a thing - just look at Ziggy Stardust and Mick Jagger, and it must be acknowledged that the queer community has always been innovative and experimental with the ‘rules’ of fashion and style. There are loads of male fashion icons that sport nail polish at the moment, such as Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky, Lil Yachty and Bad Bunny to name only a few. 

Tyler, the Creator follows the trend of male musicians to endorse their own nail polish lines, including Harry Styles and Machine Gun Kelly. Styles dropped his beauty line ‘Pleasing’ back in November 2021, in a bid to ‘dispel the myth of a binary existence’. The birth of his brand follows the success of Styles’ collaboration with Gucci on their Mémoire d’une Odeur fragrance, which is also unisex. 

Whether purchasing from celebrities themselves or your local drugstore, remember that beauty is for everyone. Nail polish doesn’t have to be created or endorsed by a famous male figure to be cool, but they serve as some fun inspiration.
